1. ASEAN Summit, Jakarta Governor Urges Private Sectors to Implement WFH

Acting Governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono said that he hopes the private sector will implement the work-from-home (WFH) policy during the ASEAN Summit on September, 5-7, 2023. Heru Budi said distance learning and WFH are necessary during the event.

“Because the road in 29 areas will implement contraflow [during ASEAN Summit], it could be uncomfortable for other road users on September, 5, 6, and 7, 2023,” he said in Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

Previously, the government has applied the 50% WFH policy for civil servants to reduce air pollution as well as suppress possible traffic congestion during the ASEAN Summit.

2. Jakarta Govt Sprinkles Roads and Parks to Suppress Air Pollution

The Jakarta provincial government and the Jakarta Metro Police have been teaming up for the past few days to sprinkle water on the roads and parks in Jakarta to reduce the accumulation of dust as the effects of air pollution.

The Head of Green Track of the Jakarta Park and Urban Forest Office Herlinda Merinda says that the office continues to sprinkle water on plants located on the Jakartan roads or public facilities.

“The provincial government of Jakarta strives to continue ensuring that the plant and tree ecosystem in the capital could still grow amid the El Nino-induced drought,” said Herlina in a written statement on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

3. Yogyakarta Hosts ASEAN Nuclear Meeting

The delegates of nuclear regulatory bodies of the ASEAN members attended the 10th Annual Meeting of ASEANTOM at Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel in Yogyakarta on August 22-24, 2023.

The meeting discussed several critical issues regarding the implementation of technical cooperation on nuclear between ASEAN members such as drafting the work plan, transfer of knowledge and good practices regarding safety, nuclear security, and safeguards between nuclear regulatory bodies and relevant parties in Southeast Asia.
